About MWC
About
The Morningside Woman’s Club (MWC) was founded in 1937. Membership is open to women of all neighborhoods. MWC members value the small town feeling and closeness of the neighborhoods and the opportunity to be a part of a multi-generational club of women.
Monthly General Meetings
The Morningside Woman’s Club meets monthly on the third Monday of each month September - May, except December. Daytime meetings occur in the lower level of the Edina Morningside Community Church from 12:15-2:00pm and include social time, lunch (optional, catered, $15 per person, reservation required), and a Program (see General Meeting Programs page for more information). Childcare is also available during daytime general meetings ($10 per child, $15 max per family, scheduled through the reservationist).
General meetings in September and April are evening meetings within Edina, and arrangements vary.
Newsletters
Newsletters are sent to all members about three times a year, in the beginning of the fall, winter, and spring months. Watch your mailbox for these updates which will include program information, member updates, and other important details.
Sections
A variety of special-interest “sections” operate under the umbrella of MWC, including book clubs, bridge, gardening and knitting. All members are welcome to join a group and are encouraged to participate. The sections provide a great opportunity to get to know other club members and to share and learn about a common interest. Each section has its own page with meeting dates, locations, times, and contact within this website. Please refer to a section page for more information.
MWC February Service Project
Join us in supporting women in need by contributing to our collection of feminine hygiene products during the February meeting. Prefer a cash donation? We've got you covered - we can purchase the products on your behalf.
Both hygiene product and cash donation boxes will be located near the registration table. Paper bags with handles will also be collected.

Fundraising
The Morningside Woman’s Club has a long tradition of offering scholarships to Edina High School graduating seniors. A portion of our yearly dues are allocated to fund our scholarship awards. In addition, we hold fundraising events to add to our total giving potential. In recent years, our annual holiday boutique has blossomed into a thriving Holiday Market. With over 50 local artisan vendors, our event is known as the best “pop-up” boutique in town.
Scholarships
Each year, MWC offers college scholarships to students residing in the Morningside neighborhood who are graduating from Edina High School. Eligible students submit applications through the high school and are approved by the appointed EHS scholarship committee. In 2024, the Morningside Woman’s Club presented four seniors with a $2,000 scholarship each to further his or her education after graduating.
The Elaine Fernelius Scholarship is awarded to a Morningside resident at Edina High School senior each year. Elaine Fernelius was a long-time Morningside resident and member of MWC. She was the “greatest volunteer you could ask for” and served as our President from 1999-2000. After her sudden death in 2000, her devoted husband, Len, donated a scholarship to MWC in her name. He has done so each year since to honor his late wife and carry on her tradition of service to the club.
Our 2024 Scholarship Recipients include:
Sophie Sannes-Eckes - UCLA
Meredith Moore - Butler University
George McIntyre - North Iowa Community College
Charley Strodl - U TN, Knoxville (Elaine Fernelius Scholarship Award)
